See below for answers to some common questions about working at Emerging Futures.
We care more about who you are and your values, than how academic you were at school.
For many of our entry level roles, we don’t require any experience as we offer extensive on the job training.
Yes!
We do require everyone to disclose their criminal record and go through a DBS. However, we work with many people who have experience of the criminal justice system. Our staff use their lived experience of crime to help our service users change their behaviours.
We look for people who share our organisational values of respect, integrity and accountability.
Each role requires different skills, but for those who haven’t worked in housing or community support roles before, we provide our team with the knowledge and training they need to work with clients in a holistic and person-centred way.
Not necessarily.
We have roles that do not require any direct experience working in drug and alcohol services and understand there are often transferrable skills and experience from other sectors that are valuable.
However, some of our management and team leader vacancies do require candidates to have specific experience. Any essential and desirable experience will be specified for each role in the person specification section of the job description.
Emerging Futures takes the professional development of our staff seriously. It is an integral part of everything we do.
For those in recovery and considering a career in the drug and alcohol sector, our coach training offers opportunities to develop skills that move people into volunteering. For those with experience, our leadership development programme provides a pathway for those moving into management.
We’re always happy to hear from people who would like to give their time to volunteer at Emerging Futures. Depending on where you live, we have different kinds of volunteers. From trained coaches who work with our service users to those who can only give a few hours but may help at local events.

Our volunteers are a vital part of our organisation and many of our staff, including our senior leaders, began their journey in the drug and alcohol sector as volunteers. We always want to hear from people who share our passion and commitment to supporting people affected by addiction. Many of our volunteers have their own lived experience of addiction or homelessness, and they use their experiences to help those we work with. Use the form on the ‘contact us’ page to find out more about volunteer opportunities in your area.
