Welcome to Tom Ebbutt, Chair of the Board
We are delighted to welcome Tom Ebbutt as our new Chair of the Board from April 2023. Tom takes over from David Royce, who led our Board from 2015.
An impressive background working with social enterprises
Tom brings an impressive track record in senior management with organisations including Deloitte, Ambition Institute which provides professional development programmes for school leaders, and On Purpose which promotes leadership in organisations focused on purpose not profit. Tom is currently Director of Impact at B Lab UK, a non-profit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet. He has been a non-executive director at Emerging Futures since 2021.
Outside of his day job, Tom has eight years’ experience as a local government councillor and is presently a trustee at the Social Market Foundation. He has previously held non-executive director roles with charities including Tempo Time Credits and East End Citizens Advice Bureau.
Practicing social responsibility in business
Tom has extensive experience in leading the growth of social-purpose organisations that sit at the boundary between the public and third sectors. He has in-depth knowledge of charity and social enterprise governance, alongside his experience in local government and public service reform.
Commenting on his appointment, Tom said: “Since its foundation Emerging Futures has helped thousands of people change their lives for the better. I look forward to playing my part in making sure we help thousands more people in the years to come.”
Ray Jenkins, Chief Executive of Emerging Futures, welcomed Tom saying: “The role of Chair is critical to robust and effective governance and sets the tone for our growth and direction. As an existing EF non-executive director, Tom has already contributed immensely, and he certainly has the skills and experience to help us thrive and meet future challenges. He has big shoes to fill but will offer us the continuity and vision to lead us into an exciting new phase of development.”
