First tenants welcomed to new home-from-home community drug detox service
Emerging Futures is delighted to welcome the first tenants at its new community drug detox service. Delivered in partnership with Change Grow Live, the new 4-bed house provides high quality, individual detox support to people living in Kirklees and Dewsbury. Funded by Kirklees Council, the service is now easier to access and provides a clinically safe, solid foundation for successful recovery.
Individual treatment packages
The Kirklees detox service offers tailored support for people committed to overcoming addiction and a safe space to begin changing their lives for good. Service users work with staff to co-produce a recovery plan focused on their own individual needs and circumstances. Their plan will include daily community detox activities at the Kirklees community hub, such as health and wellbeing activities, behaviour change programmes, coaching, family services and specialist housing and employment support.
A family environment
Back at the house, service users receive live-in support from a specialist worker and share in group activities such as cooking, cleaning and laundry to help them feel part of a therapeutic, group environment. A homely atmosphere and ‘family feel’ are an essential part of the therapeutic support offered and are designed to foster a sense of community and belonging. Service users are also encouraged to attend external mutual aid support groups at evenings and weekends to build their recovery capital and prepare them for independent living.
Comprehensive support programme
Karen Hirst, Head of Operations North, Emerging Futures, said: “This new service is designed to meet the wide-ranging needs of people seeking to overcome addiction and move forward with their lives. Our team work closely with the Change Grow Live detox team to offer personalised community detox support, post-detox stabilisation, respite and aftercare support.
“Our 24-hour package of co-ordinated care and support provides a safe and effective detox pathway for people who use alcohol and opiates, working in collaboration with the service user and other professionals. The service doesn’t just provide a bed, it is a home to live in with structure and support providing the foundation for the next step of their recovery.”
